n00by Q re: dualspex

Heya,

I would like to dualspec fire and frost, however I don't know what is good for what. Solo frost and pug fire? PvE fire and pvp frost? I see a lot of people saying that both are good for everything, so should I just pick one?

as far as leveling goes if you want to live go frost lol.. if you want to kill things in 2 hits go arcane..if you want all around bad assery go fire

Flavory Macros

I'm thinking of doing some macros that will /yell something when I hit my awesome abilities. . . . any suggestions for what I should say for which?

You should probably poke your Soul Casket and Mirror Images in that macro as well.

Soul Casket is in there for my full macro, and i prefer to keep mirror images out for times when id rather save them for a seperate moment.
For some reason, I can see myself putting that /yell into my Goblin's macro and...

and then I'm afraid she'll shake uncontrollably and blow up

You need to be careful macro'ing flavor text to abilities. Personally, sometimes it is ok and harmless. But unneeded chat in raids can peeve RLs.

If you macro it to an ability you get squelched if you use the macro in a city and players report you - the best example of this is when hunters have a emote or yell when they feed their pets, and they feed them 4-5 times in a row because they are unhappy.
I wrote a small script to /yell stupid #@!@ when affected by Cauterize.
Most of it was capitals because I was typing loudly.
You can also use something like Weak Auras (and I assume Power Auras) to trigger chat text as well. The benefit of doing it that way is that you can have it trigger only when the ability actually works - for example a successful interrupt or spellsteal.

I had one that yelled "ROADHOUSE" every time I got a hit for over 500k when we were learning heroic Nefarian. I thought it was hilarious but only one other guy even got the joke.

Newb General Mage Questions!

Ok Originally my main was a Shaman so I really only been raiding on the mage for this being the second week. I have been arcane but since duel specced for Fire for specific fights. Last night we did H Maloriak and I played with fire a couple times and my damamge was really really low! I hovered around 14-16K when I was arcane I hoeverd around 19-20K. It was 25 man so needless to say the 2 other fire mages did about 23-25 every attept and the other arcane mage was around the same area as me. I know that is a fire fight I know. What is the propper rotation on that trash? I kept Blast wave on cd starting with a Living Bomb then scorched the target and hard casted a pyro then combustion. My first mistake was not watching ignite and I will fix that today by getting combustion helper but what else can I do? I mean it cant be a gear thing can it? I am sitting at 300 haste as arcane so my fireballs when I go fire are slow as dirt and my crit is also low but my mastwery is pretty good. Should I even out my arcane spec more? Mix some more haste and crit instead pure stacking mastery on the reforges? Also on reg rotaion on bosses I would start with lb, scorch and fireball till I proc a pyro and keep uplb and scorth right? I also noticed I was killing living by casting them to early I know 40+% damage from lb comes from the blast.
I really just need help with fire spec for the couple fights I need to switch back to fire for. Thanks again in advance!

I was fire pre-patch, now Im arcane. When our guild started Cho'gall, I respecced fire but I didnt want to reforge/regem/regear all my mastery back into haste/crit. Thank god I tried it out in a ZA before the raid. I had horrible horrible DPS.

I was surprised, but I guess thats what happens when a fire mage stacks the be'jesus out of their worst stat.

So unless you're regearing after the spec switch, expect mediocrity.

Fire or Arcane? PVE

Thinking of bringing my mage up from 76 to 85. I recently got my priest to 85 and had planned to go holy/shadow but it involves too much reforging and re-enchanting to be worth it.

I think I plan to just go holy/disc.

Anyway, I'm after a range class and I always liked fire and haven't really tried arcane.

Are both specs doing well in 4.2?

Your spec is a little wonky. Depending on what your raid needs, you should be changing your spec based upon what is in need. If you are one of the primary interrupters, Invocation is great, keep it. Drop 2 points from improved blink and move them into Burning Soul. Drop one from Improved Polymorph & Nether Vortex and move 1 point into Master of Elements, while using the other to finish off Burning Soul. That should fix up your spec, and I'm not going to speak about your gear :).
hit was low had to reforge back into it atleast thats what they told me im pulling 13k now steadily but im trying to push for 18

115k crit

So i was in RBG last night and druid bear had flag and 10 stack and yep. I did 115k crit on him,he was at 60% hp and died.
BAAHAHHAHA I love when that happens.

I hit a 121k Shatter on a warrior FC who popped reck, i had zerker, trinket, etc. But yeah my GM in vent said " WHAT THE F*** DID YOU DO QAST" Cuz i couldn't stop laughing my balls off in vent.
lol wow. Yeah i just had a few stacks of AB and trinket+arcane power up.
I hope you yelled "Steaks for everyone!!!" after you blew his !@#$ into tiny bear pieces.

Water Elemental Too Loud

Wondering if there's a way to turn down the volume on my pet. I mean i use headphones most of the time and its a constant, distracting sound of boiling water, like i'm cooking pasta, or the faucet's running... ya know?

any ideas?
